You'll notice the first new feature of Visual Studio 2017 before you even launch it for the first time! Microsoft has completely redesigned the set-up experience, and the process is now not called “set up” anymore. So where do we start with Visual Studio 2017? Why, with setup, of course! The Acquisition Experience I encourage you to check these tools out and consider them to be additional options, while not forgetting about the core product of Visual Studio 2017. Many developers will be using all of these tools (and more) in their daily development routine. However, it's important to know that these tools exist in addition to “regular” Visual Studio. CODE Magazine has other articles addressing those. This article isn't about Visual Studio Code or Visual Studio for the Mac. (Visual Studio for the Mac grew out of the older Xamarin Studio product, now owned by Microsoft Microsoft acquired Xamarin.) NET Core) and it's especially great at writing Xamarin applications. This tool is great at writing cross-platform code (such as can be done with. Visual Studio is a Windows tool, but Microsoft now has Visual Studio for the Mac. In a related scenario, developers like to write code on the Mac, and there are plenty of reasons to have a full IDE for that. And that's what it aims to be: a tool for people who like to edit text-based files and do so very efficiently. Visual Studio doesn't lay claim to that scenario, but Microsoft supports it with its new (and very popular) Visual Studio Code tool (download for free from Visual Studio Code lacks many features that a full IDE has, but on the other hand, Visual Studio Code is a really good editor. I recommend that you install it today!įor instance, many Web developers like using lightweight tools for specific tasks, and they want to be able to do so on any platform (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc.). It's hard to imagine a reason you wouldn't prefer Visual Studio 2017 over older versions. It has a very important role to play, but even with all its new whistles and bells, it doesn't address every scenario. Visual Studio is the Big Daddy of Integrated Development Environments (IDEs). This requires an adjustment in tools and a much larger toolbox. Microsoft supports iOS, Android, and HTML developers of all flavors. Microsoft welcomes Linux developers into its world. For instance, Microsoft has embraced the world of Open Source, including scenarios far beyond its own Windows platform. Over the last few years, Microsoft has drastically corrected its course when it comes to development scenarios. That's quite an ambitious goal.īefore I dive into the specifics of Visual Studio 2017, I'd like to discuss scenarios that exist in parallel with those covered by Visual Studio. It's fair to say that the focus of Visual Studio 2017 is on performance, productivity, and supporting the latest development scenarios, such as cloud and mobile development. At the same time, Microsoft is now looking at the new development landscape and they're making sure that their development tools support all the latest scenarios. This time around, Microsoft is leveraging these new features and pushing them to the max. Some features have been around for a long time, and others, such as the editor and the compiler infrastructure, have received a massive overhaul in recent versions. Visual Studio is a very big and very mature product. What are the main features? Is there one big theme? Well, yes and no. Even with the regular cadence of incremental updates to Visual Studio, the big version jumps always offer plenty of new features. March 7th, 2017 was one of those occasions, as Microsoft released Visual Studio 2017. Reliably, like clockwork, Microsoft churns out a new version of its IDE behemoth.

Is that necessarily stated outright, no but it is implied and a thing we have speculated about. Implying that they are creatures of remnant. Like both Shadow Freddy and Shadow bonnie's pages say some interesting things about those two. The lore in this book is a lot more in the area of confirmation of details and hints as to importance. Now the important question that we have all been waiting for, is there lore? The answer is sort of. Again like why include the Yarg foxy, which is literally just a plush, and not the actual animatronic dog Fetch? It is weird how they picked some to include and others to exclude at seemingly random. Most of the Fazbears frights do just reuse characters already discussed like Ballora, glitchtrap, and Foxy but several have new animatronics that just for some reason don't make the cut. It had sea bonnies, yarg foxy, and Lonley Freddy but it didn't have things like Fetch, Ella (again), the bunny from Bunny Call, and a few others. It was also kind of selective with which of the Fazbear's Frights characters got to be included. This book does have the silver eyes trilogy included because it covers all of the twisted animatronics, though I don't think in really mentioned the charlie bots. For example, Ella, Stanley, and Theador from the novel trilogy are not included despite them being in the Freddy Files. The main cast of all the games is here as well as a lot of minor players like, JJ and Dark Springtrap. Sure most characters are here and there is a surprising amount of Special Delivery skins, which I really don't think should count unless someone can give me a good reason for them to be here instead of other distinct characters from the books. Not every character is in here as you would think from the title. They more than anything set the tone of the book. Some feel a little lore-ish but they are mostly jokes for kids. Like Vanny's say "Giving you a false sense of security", "Isn't cosplay meant to be a bit of harmless fun", and "Wow, eating carrots really does help you see in the dark." Like some of these are pretty funny for certain characters. It has 1-3 little jokes per character separated out like little one-line zingers. I would also like to mention here that the book is pretty funny. Near the end, it leans more towards characters as we have humans included but that is ok. So it has all the games FNAF 1- Security Breach (minus FNAF World), the Silver eyes novel trilogy, and The Fazbear Frights novels (sort of). So what is actually in this book? Well as it says it is a character encyclopedia, it covers all of (for the most part) the animatronics from the FNAF universe. Spoiler alert not as much lore as everyone was thinking, but still some. Should I have hoped for more, probably not, but the internet was really hyping this one up. I was really hoping for more from this one. Oh, how I have a love-hate relationship with the FNAF books. It's why I feel that a book about medieval Europe is much less enjoyable than one with the same basic structure in the Renaissance. This means that the writer has to ensure that the world is well-built so that it feels familiar and realistic for the player to not only enjoy the story, but to also feel a part of it. However, when you have a video game, the world is not only the author's creation, but the player's as well, especially so when the plot changes and bifurcates depending on the player's actions. I'm sure this is a huge part of what people enjoy about these kinds of storytelling. When you read a book or watch a film, the world you see is that of the writer, so it comes as a total surprise when you come across some part of it in the story that didn't exist before. The major distinction between the two is that the reader will get to be an active part of the story rather than the passive one of watching a movie or TV show. Worldbuilding is instrumental, particularly so in video games over other literary forms. Ultimately, no single definition out there can govern the vast creative extent of worldbuilding, and to enact one would severely restrict that creative process. The term is often used in a vague way, with several definitions to describe stories that don’t necessarily share all those same attributes. Worldbuilding is a creative literary process which includes, most commonly, fiction, where the author attempts to create an alternate reality that is realistic, believable, and consistent. In most cases, I’ll be more willing to accept a game that plays out its fronts at a lower quality than a game that plays out at a higher quality simply due to my perception of worldbuilding as being a major aspect of anything I play, not just in video games, but also any fantastical piece of literature out there. Out of the numerous aspects of any game, be it gameplay mechanics, plot and storytelling, music, or even overall design there’s one subject I’ve always adored, but also struggled to articulate properly, even in my own opinion: worldbuilding. |
